Background

Thousand years ago, human left picking for growing, hunting and breeding. This conversion largely explains today's societies development. The resulting relative abundance allowed to spend more time to develop techniques, arts and culture.

Only fishing seemed to be left out from this evolution. This situation however radically changed nowadays with aquaculture, rendered indispensable by the marine resources impoverishment. To make up for lost time, advanced technologies such as microencapsulation are now available.

Encapsulation is a precious tool, not only to improve fish-, shellfish and crustacean feed, but it also allows to reduce pollution and disease risks often combined with aquaculture. It may finally become a new approach for sea product valorisation.

The symposium objectives are to point out how encapsulation may help developing aquaculture, to enhance relationships between all contributors, to favour colaborative projects and networks start up, and to promote aquaculture development through microencapsulation techniques.
